CULTURAL ECOFEMINISM IN CHARLOTTE PERKINS GILMAN’S FEMINIST UTOPIAN VISION AND ITS LIMITATIONS

Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an American feminist author of fiction and non-fiction, lecturer sociologist the late 19th, early 20th centuries. She integrates her sociological commentary into ecofeminist vision for alternative community consisting merely women in utopian Herland published 1915. The she envisioned can best be read through lens cultural ecofeminism with essentialist view women’s innate tendency to uphold sanctity environment opting a peaceful coexistence rather than patriarchal domination. Since men are considered impediments such coexistence, they absent from based on sisterhood all where breed parthenogenesis raise their daughters as individual family units. Familial relations not entirely eliminated, rather, Herlanders descend common maternal ancestor, biologically well culturally connected.
